Julian Espinosa — Artist
Julian Espinosa
Artist and founder of Studio Espin — Bidart, French Basque Country
Julian Espinosa is a Colombian-born artist based on the French Basque coast. He has been a traveller since he was young, moving between continents, languages and cultures long before he called himself an artist. That early displacement became the material of his practice.
His work is made between two geographies that rarely appear together. On one side, Colombia and Latin America: the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the Magdalena, the Caribbean coast, Panamá. On the other, the Basque coast where he now lives and works: Biarritz, Socoa, Guéthary, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Ciboure. The pieces move between the two without deciding, because the practice itself has never decided.
The work
Espinosa works across painting, drawing, photography, mixed media and textile art. An image may begin as an oil painting, an acrylic on canvas, a marker and watercolour drawing, or a photograph — and then be layered, reworked and pushed past what any single medium could hold on its own.
Digital tools, including artificial intelligence, are part of that process. They are used as instruments under the artist's direction, never as autonomous authors. Every finished work is conceived, selected, altered and validated by Julian Espinosa.
Studio Espin
Studio Espin is the artist's independent studio and the only place his work is published directly. It offers original paintings, signed and numbered limited editions, fine art photography, and wearable pieces built by hand.
Every edition is limited, numbered in the order purchases are received, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued in the artist's name.
